It's all about making you feel at home, where you're not just someone who uses our service, but a valued member of a community that cares for each other. Your privacy is important to us because it's a matter of Amanah, a trust we guard with the utmost sincerity, just as family does.

Our commitment to privacy: Wemus, though new and growing, is deeply committed to your privacy. As we grow, our focus remains on protecting your information. We're dedicated to building services that not only respect your privacy but also strengthen your trust in us.

Data Integrity: We hold your trust in the highest regard. Selling your data is against our principles, and it will always be, in sha Allah.

Transparency in data processing: Inspired by the Islamic principle of clear communication, we've simplified our Privacy Policy. Unlike the complex documents often found in the tech world, ours is straightforward and easy to understand. We believe in making sure you're fully informed about how we handle your privacy, without the confusion. It's our way of showing respect for your trust and ensuring our practices are transparent and accessible.

Security measures: Here at Wemus, your privacy isn't just a policy; it's our mission. Our vigilant team is always enhancing our security measures, ensuring your data is locked down tight.

Welcome to our Privacy Policy. Thank you for taking the time to read it.

Your trust means everything to us, especially when you share your information. We're dedicated to honoring that trust. It all begins with being transparent about what we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and giving you control over your information. Our Privacy Policy is written in plain language, to make our privacy practices as clear as possible, avoiding unnecessary legal or technical terms.

1. Who we are

Wemus Ventures Private Limited.

2. Where this privacy policy applies

This privacy policy applies to all websites, applications, events, and other services operated by Wemus. For simplicity, we collectively refer to these as our “services” throughout this privacy policy. To ensure clarity, we have provided links to this privacy policy on all relevant services.

It's important to note that certain services may have their own distinct privacy policies. In such cases, the privacy policy specific to that service will take precedence over this general privacy policy.

3. Information we collect

We may collect Personal Information, including Sensitive Data, and other information. "Personal Information" refers to individually identifiable information that would enable us to determine the actual identity of, and contact, a specific living person. Sensitive Data includes information, comments, or content (such as photographs, video, profile, lifestyle) that you choose to provide, which may reveal your ethnic origin, nationality, religion, and/or sexual orientation. By voluntarily providing Sensitive Data to us, you consent to its collection, use, and disclosure as permitted by applicable privacy laws. With your consent, we may also collect your geolocation information. This information may be collected through our website, mobile application, or other online services. By using the Service, you authorize us to gather, parse, and retain data related to the provision of the Service. When you provide personal information through our Service, it may be transmitted to servers located in the United States and other countries around the world, where data protection laws may differ.

Information you give us

  • Registration: When signing up as a user with Wemus, you'll have the option to register using your phone number and email address. If you opt for Facebook login, you give us permission to access certain information from your Facebook account, including your public profile (according to your Facebook privacy settings), email address, interests, likes, gender, birthday, education history, relationship interests, current city, photos, personal description, friend list, and details about mutual friends who are also Wemus users.

  • Location permission: As part of using our Service, you'll be asked to grant permission to collect your location information from your device.

  • Additional information: We may also collect and store any personal information you provide while using our Service or through other means. This may include identifying details such as your name, address, email address, and phone number. If you engage in transactions with us, we may collect financial information. You may also provide us with photos, a personal description, and information about your gender and preferences for recommendations, such as search distance, age range, and gender.

  • Chat and customer service: If you communicate with other Wemus users through our chat feature, the content of your conversations will be accessible to us. Additionally, any communications you have with us for customer service or other inquiries will be stored.

Ethical personal data collection

  • Identity-related data: To access the Services, you must complete the registration form. During registration, you are obligated to provide certain personal data.

  • Providing contact information: You may choose to provide The Company with your mobile phone number to receive text alerts and as part of our profile verification process. However, your email address and phone number will not be visible or accessible to the public in any case. Additionally, we do not share your mobile information with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. It's important to note that the above categories exclude opt-in data and consent for text messaging originators, which will not be shared with any third parties.

  • Location data (Geolocation): The primary function and objective of The Company is to facilitate users in finding nearby individuals to facilitate virtual or real-life meetups. To achieve this, we request your permission to collect and process your geolocation data. This enables The Company to identify other users who have also consented to geolocation services.

  • Transaction data: Wemus does not collect or process any bank data. The Apple App Store and Google Play Store have chosen not to transmit certain data, including banking and financial information, to mobile applications. This data is exclusively collected and processed by the aforementioned platforms, and Wemus is unable to modify this payment method.

  • Mobile data: When you use the Application, Wemus collects server logs which may include information such as IP addresses, operating systems, or application crashes.

  • Selfie: To ensure the authenticity of sign-ups and prevent fake account creation, we conduct a manual liveness check based on your facial image. As part of our signup process, we request a selfie from you. Your selfie is solely used for manual liveness verification by our team. We do not share your selfie with any third-party partners for this purpose. Once the verification process is completed, your selfie is securely stored and not used for any other purpose.

Data collection technologies

We employ a variety of technologies to retrieve information from your device and monitor your activities on our Service.

  • Automatic information collection: When you visit our Service, we automatically gather information from your browser or device. This data may encompass your IP address, device ID and type, browser type and language, operating system used by your device, access times, geographic location of your mobile device while our application is actively running, and the website address from which you arrived.

  • Cookies and usage of cookie and similar data: When you visit our Service, we may employ cookies or similar technologies on your device to enhance personalization and facilitate access to our Service. These technologies help us customize your experience and improve the functionality of our Service. Through the use of cookies, we automatically collect information about your activities on our Service, such as the pages you visit, the time and date of your visits, and the links you click. Additionally, if we engage in advertising, either directly or through third parties, certain data collected on our Service may be used to display Wemus advertisements on other websites or applications.

  • Pixel tags: We incorporate pixel tags, also known as web beacons or clear GIFs, into web pages, advertisements, and emails. These small, invisible graphics enable access to cookies and allow us to track user activities, such as page views. Pixel tags are utilized to gauge the popularity of our features and services. Additionally, advertising companies utilize pixel tags to assess the number of advertisements displayed and their performance, including the number of ad clicks.

  • Mobile device IDs: When you use our app, we utilize mobile device IDs, which are unique identifiers assigned to devices by manufacturers, or Advertising IDs (for iOS 6 and later), instead of cookies, to recognize you. This enables us to store your preferences and monitor your usage of our app. Unlike cookies, device IDs cannot be deleted, but Advertising IDs can be reset in the "Settings" on your iPhone. Additionally, advertising companies utilize device IDs or Advertising IDs to track your app usage, monitor the number of ads displayed, assess ad performance, and deliver ads that are more relevant to you. Analytics companies also use device IDs to gather information about app usage.

  • Information collected by third parties for advertising purposes: We may permit service providers, advertising companies, ad networks, and other third parties to showcase advertisements on our Service and other platforms. These entities may employ tracking technologies, such as cookies or web beacons, to gather information about users who view or engage with their advertisements. It's important to note that we do not disclose any personal information that is not anonymized or obscured to third parties.

5. How we share information

Our primary objective is to facilitate meaningful connections among users. Consequently, the predominant sharing of users' information occurs with other users. Additionally, we collaborate with service providers and partners who aid us in operating the Wemus app, and in certain instances, we may share users' information with legal authorities. For further insights into how your information is shared with others, please continue reading.

A. With other members

You share information with other members when you voluntarily disclose information on the service, including your public profile. It's important to be cautious with your information and ensure that the content you share is comfortable for you to be visible.

If you opt to restrict the audience for all or part of your profile or for specific content or information about you, it will be visible according to your settings.

In the event that someone submits a report involving you, such as a claim that you violated our Terms of Use, we may communicate to the reporter any actions we took as a result of their report.

B. With our service providers and partners

We engage vendors to assist us in operating, distributing, marketing, and enhancing our services. These vendors provide services such as data hosting and maintenance, analytics, customer care, marketing, advertising, payment processing, and security operations. Additionally, we share information with vendors who aid in distributing and advertising our services. For example, we may share limited information on you in hashed, non-human readable form with advertising vendors.

Prior to engaging any vendor or partnering with any entity, we adhere to a rigorous vetting process. Our vendors and partners are required to adhere to strict confidentiality obligations.

C. With our affiliates

We may share information with other entities within our corporate family, including subsidiaries, joint ventures, or other companies under common control (collectively referred to as "affiliates"). This sharing of information is done to facilitate the operation of our services, enhance user experiences, and for other purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy. Our affiliates are bound by the same privacy practices and standards as outlined herein.

At times, the sharing of information outlined in Section 5 may involve cross-border data transfers, including to jurisdictions such as the United States of America and others. For instance, if our service allows users from the European Economic Area ("EEA"), their personal information may be transferred to countries outside the EEA. To facilitate such transfers, we adhere to standard contract clauses endorsed by the European Commission or other suitable measures. These clauses are agreements between companies involved in data transfer, ensuring the protection of your data's privacy and security.

7. Your rights and choices

Empowering you to manage your information, we highlight the following options and tools at your disposal:

  • Our service offers tools and account settings enabling you to access, rectify, or delete information associated with your account directly. If you require assistance with these tools and settings, please don't hesitate to reach out to our customer care team for support.

  • On mobile platforms, there are permission systems that control access to different types of device data and notifications, such as phone contacts, pictures, location services, push notifications, and advertising identifiers. You have the ability to change your device settings to allow or deny consent for the collection or processing of this information, as well as for the display of related notifications. Keep in mind that adjusting these settings may impact the functionality of certain services.

  • You can halt all information collection by an app by uninstalling it through the standard uninstall process for your device. It's important to note that uninstalling an app does not automatically close your account. To close your account, please utilize the corresponding functionality within the service itself.

  • You can opt to close your account by directly accessing the corresponding functionality within the service itself.

We also want to ensure you are aware of your privacy rights. Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

  • You may have the right to request a copy of your information held by us and, under certain circumstances, receive it in a portable format. You can exercise this right directly within the service by submitting a request.

  • You have the right to request the deletion or erasure of your personal information held by us. You can exercise this right by submitting a request for deletion.

  • You have the option to rectify or update most of the information you provided to us by making edits to your profile within the service. If you believe that the information we have is incorrect, you can reach out to us to request corrections.

  • You also have the right to raise objections or request restrictions on certain processing activities. Please reach out to us if you wish to exercise this right.

For your security and the protection of all members, we may require you to verify your identity before addressing the aforementioned requests. Please note that we reserve the right to reject requests if we cannot verify your identity, if the request is deemed unlawful or invalid, or if it may violate trade secrets, intellectual property, or the privacy rights of others. If you request information about another member, such as messages exchanged through our service, that member must provide written consent before we release the information. We may also request proof of identity from them before fulfilling the request. Additionally, we may be unable to fulfill certain objections or restrictions on personal information processing if doing so would prevent us from providing our service to you. For example, we require your date of birth to ensure compliance with age restrictions for our service.

8. Data retention

If you delete or deactivate your account, we will retain your data for up to 2 years for analytical purposes and maintaining record integrity. This also helps prevent fraud, settle any outstanding fees, enforce our terms and conditions, safeguard the integrity of our Services and users, or take other actions permitted by law. After this period, personally identifiable information linked to the account, such as email address, phone number, and photos, will be anonymized or masked. However, anonymized member data will continue to be stored to maintain platform integrity. Furthermore, if certain information has already been shared with third parties as outlined in this Privacy Policy, its retention will be subject to those third parties' policies.

9. Data deletion

  • Deletion timestamp: We log the precise time when you request account deletion.

  • Immediate deactivation: Upon deletion request, your account, profile, and photos are instantly deactivated and no longer visible to other members, except for your name and avatar in member block lists and to existing matches.

  • Email communication: Following the deletion request confirmation, no further emails will be sent from our end.

  • Permanent deletion: After a maximum of two years, we permanently erase all personally identifiable information, including photos, email address, phone number, and profile details.

10. Reasoning behind data deletion policy

A. Data retention for law enforcement requests

  • Requests from law enforcement for data on specific member accounts may occur many months after the user has left the service

  • Immediate deletion of all information upon user request may hinder law enforcement investigations

B. Maintenance of block history

  • Block history is retained to prevent users from repeatedly harassing other members after being blocked

  • Deleting block history immediately would allow blocked users to rematch and potentially harass others again

C. Retention of phone number, email address, and login credentials

  • Phone numbers, email addresses, and login credentials are kept to prevent users from creating multiple duplicate accounts

  • This measure helps in preventing harassment of other members through the creation of multiple accounts

11. Duplicate accounts

Having multiple accounts violates our Terms Of Service. Keeping the email address and phone number during this timeframe helps us deter such misuse of our services.

12. Minors strictly not allowed

Our services are exclusively for individuals aged 18 years or older. We do not allow individuals under the age of 18 to use our platform. If you suspect that a member is under the age of 18, please report them using the available reporting mechanism on the service.

13. Job Candidates, Contractors, and Vendor Representatives

We handle the personal information of our job candidates, contractors, and vendor representatives as part of our recruitment and talent management processes, as well as managing services provided by contractors and vendors. If you fall into one of these categories, certain aspects of this Privacy Policy apply to the processing of your personal information. This includes sections outlining the entity responsible for processing your data, data transfers, your rights under applicable law, how to contact us, and California-specific information.

For job applicants, the personal information processed may vary based on the position applied for, typically including details provided in the application, professional qualifications, background information, and references shared by recruiters or third parties. This information supports the recruitment process, potentially leading to an employment contract.

For contractors and vendor representatives, we may process identification and work-related details necessary to manage our relationship with you and your employer. This is essential for performing services agreements and establishing or defending legal claims.

We may share personal information with service providers that assist us with recruitment and technical data processing operations, as well as with relevant affiliates (for instance, if you have a business relationship with employees of an affiliate).

14. Amendments to Privacy Policy

As we continually explore new avenues to facilitate meaningful connections and ensure that our data practices reflect the latest standards, this policy may evolve. We will inform you in advance of any significant changes, allowing you time to review the updates.
